International Affairs Week is a conference that offers vitality and tradition. Year after year old shoalers return to their "spirit's home"; year after year new participants venture in. And always new international political themes educate and inspire attendees to better find their way in the ever-changing patterns of this world. The theme this year is Religion and International Politics: Now and Into the Future.
No longer can we just grasp world issues and find solutions by looking at the impact of sovereign states as we did last century, or of chaotic regions needing to be stabilized. This conference is about religion as a transnational, national and international player, how misunderstanding of the other creates and exacerbates worldwide conflict and is at root an existential threat to peace in our time. We'll explore a catalogue of world grievances brought on by worldwide religious diversity, provide a thoughtful analysis of needs of our multi-faith world, and present dramatic implications of this lens for American foreign policy.
The week also presents us with nourishment for the spirit, with morning and evening worship services, and engaging workshops of art, music or writing. There will be time for sports and games, time to talk about the world and ourselves, time to roam the island alone, together or in guided tours by Island staff people. Even time to sit and ponder the sky, the sea and the stars. Star Island I A Week is well known as a conference for families with its thriving youth program. We welcome you to register.
Young People's Program: This enriching program engages young people from three to just having graduated high school. Supervised care in the morning is available for children starting at 18 months.
