Located just a few miles from Star, Grain Surfboards has, for years, shared with many hundreds of people from many nations the unique experience of building wooden surfboards. Grain’s students have been surfers and non-surfers, both young and old, some with woodworking experience, others with none. But all have found that handcrafting something of wood – graceful, fluid and functional – provides rewards universally ennobling to the human spirit. Many who’ve built their own board under the watchful, welcoming and laid-back tutelage of Grain’s instructors have left with far more than just a new surfboard.
In September, Grain Surfboards will be on Star to offer a surfboard-building conferences in which they’ll share their expertise, as well as their ethos of sustainability, craft and quality. Each conferee leaves with a surfboard they built themselves, ready to fiberglass. Learn more at www.grainsurfboards.com.
