The Conference on the Arts promotes and nurtures the creative energies and abilities of all. In a relaxing, friendly environment, conferees enjoy workshops and performances, and take advantage of the richness of the Star Island community. Workshops are designed for beginning, intermediate, and advanced artists in visual arts, writing, music, dance, theatre, and photography.
This year's workshops include: The Writing Circle, with Ellen Schmidt; Visual Arts I--Sea Gem: The Spirit of Place, sculpture installation with Antoinette Prien Schultze; Visual Arts II--Watercolor: The Landscape of Star, with Jacquelyne Lotz; Portraiture in the Natural Environment, photography with Gary Samson; Dancing Through Time: Choreography with Jason Durivou; and The Structure of Ritual in Performance with David Brune. Please check our Web site to find out about this year's Music Workshop!
In 2008, ARTS will once again welcome Jacqueline and Dudley Laufman as our Sunday Night Dance leaders. Presenters and performers include Grammy award winning cellist Eugene Friesen, author/scriptwriter Jane Vallier, painter Patrick McCay, and more! Additional performances and workshops are listed on the ARTS Web site, along with complete workshop descriptions and instructor and presenter bios.
Whether you join a workshop, work on your own, or major in "front porch sitting," the island's beauty will motivate your creative talents. Rise before dawn to take photographs or paint the sunrise; stay up late and watch the stars wheel through the sky. Do everything--or do nothing. Enjoy the company and conversation of shoal-mates, old and new. Come for a week, and come back for a lifetime!
