Hop on a boat in Rye Harbor and sail back in time to the LOAS II family conference. Imagine a vacation with no cars, no televisions, no shopping malls, happy children and no stress. Imagine a softball field complete with a cemetery, flagpole, and flower garden, all in fair territory. Imagine watching people leaping into the freezing cold north Atlantic at 7:00 a.m. Imagine choosing to do it yourself.
Join us for a vacation that includes opportunities for solitude, for relaxed sociability, for being in a talent show, making music at an open mike cafe, reading a good book, rocking in a chair overlooking a quiet harbor, and attending a top-drawer musicale. Youth programs run daily with experienced, enthusiastic leaders. Adult activities include old favorites and new options to stimulate your intellectual, artistic, spiritual and physical self. And silly-ness. Can't forget that. Bring your shades and prepare to star in LOAS II--The Movie.
Theme: "Other People, Other Places"
From the Peace Corps to the present, theme speakers Jonathan and Carrol Otto have 63 years combined experience doing development work in sub-Saharan Africa. They will speak about the environment, renewable energy, agriculture, social dynamics, and conflict resolution, weaving stories of ordinary Africans doing extraordinary things.
We are also delighted to offer a special afternoon series led by Hoeskuldur Frimannsson, a native Icelander. For over 1100 years Icelanders have built a unique society in one of the less hospitable places on the planet. Through stories and photos, Hoeskuldur will give us a portrait of this fascinating culture.
