As a family conference, we strive to build community across all age levels and varieties of families, promoting physical and emotional safety for everyone. Daily morning and afternoon youth groups run by experienced and enthusiastic leaders occur during adult theme talks and workshops. At all other times parents are responsible for their children in planned or spontaneous intergenerational, recreational, and individual activities.
Your week of renewal offers workshops that teach new skills, encourage creativity, explore timely topics, invite inner journeys, or stimulate physical activity. Each week includes a soft ball game; topnotch musicale; joyous, uproarious talent show; porch music jams; natural history; art show; and open mike at Starlight Café. There is time for relaxed sociability, quiet reading, and time to just be.
Theme: Building Community
All of us live in a variety of communities, based on geography, family ties, or mutual interest. For a week at Star we enter into intentional community. How can we strengthen and support the communities in which we live, be they close-knit or global, intentional or otherwise? Theme Speaker Rev. Rosemary Bray McNatt, Senior Minister to the Fourth Universalist Society in the City of New York, will explore issues of community in the context of religion. How will liberal religions come together? What will religious communities look like in the 21st century? What constitutes a congregation? What changes are we ready for?
Minister: Rev. Carlton Elliot Smith, Central Unitarian Church, Paramus NJ
