Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Star Island was unable to open safely for our 2020 season. Please see our April 27, 2020 announcement and Frequently Asked Questions for more information. While we were closed, we worked alongside conference leaders and other volunteers to offer a wide variety of virtual offerings, free of charge – many of these offerings are available as recordings. We are grateful to the many people and organizations who have supported Star Island in this historically challenging time – your efforts have made a big difference, and we are deeply grateful. If you would like to provide urgently needed financial support of Star Island, please donate today.

As we enter the fall, it is natural to think ahead to next season. The Star Island staff, board, and many others have been actively considering various scenarios for next year, even though these are uncertain times and we don’t yet know what the situation will be with the COVID-19 pandemic when we are next scheduled to open to the public in June 2021. We intend to update this page in the coming months, and will provide updates in our email newsletters as they become available.

We know this – Star Island is strong, our community is strong, and we are all in this together. We are committed to the health and safety of our community and the short- and long-term health of Star Island and the Star Island Corporation. We will, indeed, come back!

A message from the Island Minister, Sophia Lyons:

In response to the varied difficulties some of our Star Island community members are holding, we have assembled a passionate and energized Star Island Pastoral Care Team whose sole aim is to offer ministerial support and presence in your time of need.  Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any and all concerns.  We are here for you.

At such a time as this we need one another.  No matter where we are, Star Island will continue to be a home you can turn to, for its community runs deep, its foundation is strong and the love among us and between us is, indeed, sustaining.

Blessings to you and yours,

Dear Ones,

I hope this finds you well during this difficult time.

I know in my heart that Star is not just a place we come to for a week, or work on for a few months, but rather a place we carry in our hearts and bodies year-round. A place we can return to when life tosses us around–when we find ourselves bereft or adrift or even fighting off the bitterness of a hard winter. Closing your eyes, taking some breaths, and finding your favorite spot on Star in your mind is, indeed, the gift this beautiful island gives us through all the seasons of our lives.

At this moment in time–this painful time of waiting and wondering–let us look to Star as the beacon of light, memory and hope that it is.  Let us take refuge in Star and in one another.  And let us trust that when the time is right, we will come back.

In Faith,

Your Island Minister, Sophia Lyons
