Star Island boasts a list of more than 250 recorded bird species and is THE place to witness bird migration in New Hampshire, spring and fall. On previous trips, we have seen King Eider, Chuck-will’s-widow (second state record), White-winged Dove (third state record), Western Wood-Pewee (first New England record), White-eyed Vireo, Sedge Wren, Connecticut Warbler, Lazuli Bunting (first state record), Clay-colored Sparrow, Lark Sparrow, Summer Tanager, Blue Grosbeak, Dickcissel, and Yellow-headed Blackbird. Weather permitting, we will listen for nocturnal migration. We arrive on island Friday afternoon, and depart Sunday afternoon.
